The immersion heater is a versatile piece of apparatus that allows controlled heating in the laboratory. Ideal for Specific Heat Capacity (SHC) experiments, the Lascells Immersion Heater can be used both with calorimeter blocks, and vessels of liquid (e.g. water). The unit is sealed for immersion up to the cable entry point, but care should be taken to prevent liquids from covering the joint.
The immersion heater can be connected to any laboratory power supply capable of providing 12 V at approximately 4 A using 4 mm leads (we recommend using with the Lascells Precision Power supplies). In use, it is often useful to monitor the power supplied to the heater – this may be done using the Lascells Energy Meter, making the SHC experiment extremely simple to set up.
Take care to ensure the power rating of 50 W is not exceeded: this corresponds to a maximum current of around 4 A at 12 V.
